The first day of school for Keaton didn't go like I had planned.  I made sure we had plenty of time before school so he could play on the playground and I could take some pictures.  On our way to school, we got caught in a traffic jam and it took us over 20 minutes to get to school instead of 8.  We got there right as the second bell rang so I missed taking pictures of the kids lining up along the wall.  So, I did it the 2nd day of school instead.

We decided to get blizzards tonight as a "say farewell to summer" family activity!  Keaton liked his new choice of Mint Oreo while the rest of us always get Mud Pie.

Yesterday we met with Mrs. G for our first 1st grade parent/teacher conference.  We talked about Keaton's strengths and goals for the year and even a plan for anything we should work on.  He has a lot of strengths, so I had a hard time coming up with something for him to work on.  We decided handwriting would be good.

We procrastinated all summer getting Jacek's learners permit and since the DMV is not open on Fridays, today was the last day before school starts.  If he didn't pass today, then we would've had to come back on Monday and then if he didn't pass again, I don't know what we would have done because volleyball begins on Tuesday.

It took us forever to find the place.  They recently moved out to Draper and after driving around for an hour, we finally found it.  It wasn't as busy as I thought it was going to be for a Thursday afternoon.  We filled out the paperwork and waited for our turn.  He was a little nervous, but sailed through the test and passed it the first time!  Wahoo!  We don't have to come back on Monday!

I am the worst about cashing checks.  I found 5 checks that were from my mom and decided I better cash them.  She hasn't been able to balance her checkbook correctly for years.  I found one that was written over two years ago!

Here's a picture Keaton took of his favorite thing right now- Nintendo DS!  He's amazing when it comes to figuring out how to play any game.  He'll try and figure it out and he'll look at the manuals and he has also figured out how to look up youtube videos that others have made to help him along.  He's persistent, if nothing else!  The red Mario DS is toast!  He and one of Jacek's basketball team members were playing tug of war with it and broke the hinge off the top section.  Then it went downhill from there and I'm not sure if it's working at all anymore!

One of my favorite memories from camping this year will undoubtably be Keaton and Eli digging holes. They were convinced that they could dig two holes and connect them like an underground tunnel so they could pop up and down like a groundhog.  Then Eli's dad told Keaton that if he kept digging, he'd hit China.  Keaton was excited to think about that possibility so he could  get some Chinese food.  They dug new holes everyday we were there and it kept them preoccupied for hours at a time!

We came up to Albion Basin yesterday afternoon and set up camp.  We knew there was the possibility of some nasty weather, but it was still quite shocking to see the hail/snow fall out of the sky this morning after breakfast.  It was a surreal experience as the kids made a snowman with a raspberry nose!  Luckily, we had the Mulder's canvas tent over the table so we finish our breakfast without getting soaked.

Here's the groceries I bought at Wal-Mart to get ready to go camping tonight!  I really don't like shopping at Wally World, but you can't beat their prices for pantry items like cereal, bread and treats for snacking.
