november 15

The other day I was driving to the other Science mom's house to drop off some photocopies and I saw this street sign.  I had to stop and get a picture for my Dad because it was his name, Cecil.  After I took the picture and was sending him a text of it, I looked up and noticed that the sign read CECIL DR, which is actually my brother's first and middle name.  Freaky, man!  What's even freakier is that DR always signs prints his entire name in capital letters on everything from birthday cards to checks.

I went with my friend Ruth tonight to a neighborhood soup party.  I knew a few people there from knowing Ruth for so long.  Wow!  The hostess, Kelly, did a beautiful job of presentation and set up.   There were appetizers, drink and desserts, along with 15 different kinds of soup.  I loved how she set up electric strips in the middle of the table and then put table runners over them.  Clever idea!  We each brought a soup and 23 copies of the recipe.  It was really fun to taste test all the different kinds of soup people make.  It was a chilly night to be out and about with the new snow that fell earlier in the day.  It just made having soup that much heart and tummy warming!

Oops!  Accidently ordered the 23" sized pizza tonight from The Pie Pizzeria.  I had no idea how big it was going to be.  My family is now giving me lots of grief about the unfortunate ordering mix-up.  They'll have to eat their words when they consume all the pizza over the next week.  *wink wink*

Jacek had his fall concert last night.  The Concert Band played four songs and the Concert Orchestra played a six songs.  They were both really, really good for only playing together two and half months.  Most of the band played Americana songs, which was pretty cool actually.  Mr. Watson, the band teacher, talked about the West and being exposed to that culture of music since we live in the wild, wild west.  Jacek is on the far right side holding the second tuba in from the right.  We saw a few people there that we knew and Keaton got to play with his friend Darby from school.  Her brother Tate is one of the other tuba players.  Small world, eh?

Happy Veterans Day!  My cousin Cami has a son named Trevor that serves in the military and I "borrowed" this photo from her blog.  I loved it!  Thankful for all the men, women and families that sacrifice so much for our country.  It's an honor to honor you all on this beautiful Veteran's Day!

My dear friend Laura, in addition to the whole Winward clan, sent this beautiful and delicious fruit bouquet during the difficult time right after Justin passed away two weeks ago.  It was such a nice thing to do and it made me so appreciative of her love and connection with my entire family.

We had a photography session during our workshop weekend.  I handed my camera over to someone else and this is what I got.  I had to mess with it in iphoto to even get it to look decent.

I went to a creative workshop called Spark this weekend up at This Is The Place monument with my friend Brittany.  It was magical.  I need to do a blog post about the whole experience because it was so fun and so inspiring to be around 130 women who share a passion for all things artistic.  I loved this photo that a woman named Wynona Robinson took at the event.  I love the soft, dreamy look the photo has to it.  It's the same feelings I have of the memories of participating in such a blessed experience.

I really didn't want to spend five hours at King's English Bookstore last night waiting for The Pioneer Woman to sign my three copies of her new cookbook.  But, my cousin Cami really felt bad that she couldn't be there in person to see Ree Drummond and I didn't want to let her down.  So, I braved the crowd and the cold for the above signature.  It really was worth it!  I think!  :)

I left my house at 6:00 to head up to the King's English Bookstore where Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, was signing her new cookbook.  I love her blog and thought it would be a fun adventure to go and see her in the flesh.  I had no idea what to expect.  I knew there would be a good crowd of people, but I didn't know how the whole book signing procedure was going to be handled.  I had to park a little ways away and then walk down the street.  My mistake was going into the bookstore to retrieve my books that I had already purchased.  I should have just went and jumped in line.  It would have saved me an hour or more if I would have done that one thing.  They started handing out a bookmark with a group letter right after I got in line.  I was given Group M.  I think I could have been in Group K or L if I wouldn't have gone to get my books first.  I seriously considered just leaving my books to be signed later, but didn't know you could do that until I was four hours into the whole process.  Plus, so many people weren't fortunate enough to get a ticket, so decided to stay.  Besides, I'd waited that long, so why not stick it out until the end.  It was fun chatting with a few other crazy people like myself for a few hours.  Luckily, the weather wasn't too cold as I didn't even think to bring a coat.  I did eventually go up and get my car, drive to A & W for a quick hamburger and then found a sweet parking spot near the bookstore.  Periodically, I would venture from my warm car to see what Group Letter they were on.  I can now check off "Standing in Line For Five Hours For A Celebrity's Autograph" from my Bucket List!
